Port Operations
Pecém and Mucuripe: what the owner needs to know
Pecém and Mucuripe are approximately 60 km apart, but their operating profiles are different. WeSea serves both ports from its base in Fortaleza, with around-the-clock operational coverage and physical attendance according to the requirements of each vessel call.
Port of Pecém
Pecém is an offshore port. Its piers are connected to the shore by a bridge and are exposed to open-sea conditions. Berthing and cargo operations can depend on swell and wind conditions in addition to the vessel, berth and terminal requirements. The complex supports industrial activity that includes thermal power generation and steel production, making coal and steel relevant cargo flows.
A new fuel terminal is under construction. Two additional piers are planned, but no completion date is stated here. Because infrastructure and berth availability can change, information for a specific call must be confirmed during nomination and pre-arrival planning.
Operational points managed for a Pecém call
- Pier assignment and berth-priority requirements;
- Swell restrictions affecting mooring and cargo operations;
- Draft and air-draft limits applicable to the assigned pier;
- Night-operation conditions and pilot availability;
- Terminal documentation for coal, fuel, tar derivatives and steel;
- Pilotage, towage, port services and access coordination;
- Communication of deviations together with the proposed operational response.
These points are reviewed for the vessel and operation involved. The website does not replace current information from the port, terminal, harbour master, pilot station or other competent authority.
Port of Fortaleza — Mucuripe
Mucuripe is the public port of Fortaleza, administered by Companhia Docas do Ceará. It is located within a breakwater and handles liquid bulk, general cargo and passenger traffic. Fuel and petroleum-product operations are the cargo flows most directly connected to WeSea's current heavy bulk scope at this port.
Operational points managed for a Mucuripe call
- Berth allocation among fuel, general cargo and passenger operations;
- Draft requirements at the fuel berth;
- Tidal windows when applicable to larger vessels;
- Anchorage procedures and expected waiting conditions;
- Coordination with authorities, terminal, pilotage and towage;
- Documentation, service bookings and departure clearance.
Local coordination
Both ports operate around the clock. WeSea provides one operational point of contact from nomination to sailing, sends daily updates from ETA-72h and coordinates physical attendance according to the needs of the call. The objective is to identify an operational deviation early and communicate the fact together with the next action.
